After the whirlwind of our wedding in Guatemala, San Pedro, Belize was exactly the exhale we needed.
We spent our honeymoon on Ambergris Caye, staying in what was hands down the cleanest Airbnb I’ve ever experienced. It was right on the beach with private access, and waking up just steps from the water never got old. Everything felt fresh, calm, and thoughtfully cared for—one of those places where you instantly relax the moment you walk in.
Like most people in San Pedro, we rented a golf cart to get around. It quickly became one of our favorite parts of the trip—wind in our hair, salt in the air, and absolutely no rush to be anywhere. We stayed pretty far north on the island, well away from the busy town center. While it meant longer drives when we went out, the tradeoff was worth it. Our area was quiet, peaceful, and felt like our own little corner of paradise.

We spent two separate days at Secret Beach, and it lived up to its name in the best way. Shallow, calm water stretched out endlessly, perfect for floating and doing absolutely nothing. One afternoon, we ate lunch in the water at Blue Bayou Restaurant, which felt surreal in the best possible way—sun on our shoulders, feet submerged, drinks nearby, nowhere else to be. We swam, relaxed, and even rented a jet ski, adding just the right amount of adrenaline to our otherwise slow-paced days.
On our last full day, we splurged on a boat excursion, and it was worth every single penny. We snorkeled in crystal-clear water, swam with sharks (still can’t believe we did that), and spotted seahorses, which felt like a small miracle. We visited Caye Caulker, soaked in its laid-back charm, and fed massive tarpon—something that was equal parts thrilling and slightly intimidating. The entire day felt like a highlight reel of everything Belize has to offer.

We’ll be honest—we expected grander, postcard-perfect beaches. And while the beaches weren’t quite what we imagined, the experience more than made up for it. San Pedro gave us something better: quiet mornings, slow days, shared adventures, and time to just be newly married.
It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t over-the-top.
But it was peaceful, joyful, and exactly the honeymoon we needed.
